Author(s):
Ministry Of Ports, Shipping And Waterways Government Of India
Abstract:
The Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 is a comprehensive plan by the Indian government to transform India into a global maritime leader. The plan involves an estimated investment of Rs 80 trillion over the next 25 years. The vision includes nearly 300 initiatives aimed at enhancing port facilities, promoting sustainable practices, and facilitating international collaboration. The focus is on promoting trade, reducing business costs, and preventing environmental degradation. The government aims to achieve carbon neutrality at major ports, promote domestic hydrogen production and distribution, develop 25 cruise terminals, and secure a position among the world’s top five shipbuilding nations. The government plans to quadruple port capacity to 10 billion tonnes per annum by 2047, with 100% public-private partnerships (PPPs) planned for 12 major ports. Out of the estimated Rs 80 trillion required for the entire project, approximately Rs 55 trillion will be allocated to port and vessel-related infrastructure. These investments are expected to create 35-40 million additional jobs. The vision is rooted in the need for reliable and resilient supply chains in a post-pandemic world.
