The study addresses the issue of long-waiting times for ships at anchorages, principally attributable to the lack of timely and accurate information exchange between ships and ports. This translates into a number of repercussions such as wasted fuel, energy, and harmful emissions, as ships needlessly burn resources while waiting. To resolve this recurring concern, the study proposes a system for optimizing ship-arrival times. By providing real-time updates pertaining to port availability, cargo status, and other relevant information to involved stakeholders (ships, ports, road/rail cargo handlers), vessels can alter their speed and arrive just-in-time, thus minimizing the waiting periods. This not only will reduce fuel consumption and emissions but also improves overall operational efficiency across the entire shipping and logistics chain.
