Proposed Energy Audit in VOC Tuticorin Port: The main purpose of this energy audit study is to identify energy-saving opportunities in VOC Tuticorin Port facility to realize benefits of reduction in energy consumption, in addition to reducing the associated emissions. The scope of work would cover the major energy-consuming areas.

  • Electrical system
  • Electric motors
  • Air compressors
  • Air-conditioning system
  • Pumps, fans, and blowers
  • Cooling towers
  •  Material-handling equipment
  • Lighting
  • Water audit
  • Township
  • Shore to power

The proposed energy audit is targeted at identifying economically viable, cost-effective, and energy- saving opportunities in the various sections of the port. It will also assist the management in implementing the recommended energy-saving measures, to actually realize the benefits of cost reduction.

The energy audit would involve an in-depth study of all the major energy-consuming equipment/stages of manufacture. The study would focus on improving energy-usage efficiency and identifying energy- saving opportunities at various equipment and processes. The analyses would include simple payback calculations where investments are required to be made to implement recommendations, to establish their economic viability.

The proposed deliverable of energy audit study is the report which would comprise the following parameters:

  • Detailed observations, operational practices, and actual energy consumption details (wherever possible). Areas for energy conservation will be included in the report along with analysis.
  • Proposed energy conservation measures will be grouped as no cost, low cost, and capital- intensive measures after detailed discussions with plant management.
  • Technical specifications of retrofit equipment specific to the site requirements will be drawn to match the best efficiency level.
  • Economic viability of the individual measures will be derived in terms of simple payback method.
